Inside this issueHeirloom beans are colorful, flavorful, and desirable, but they often lack key agronomic and disease-resistance traits. A team at the University of California–Davis released five heirloom-like varieties of dry bean, published in the Journal of Plant Registrations. The beans not only taste great and meet the needs of organic growers but are resistant to bean common mosaic virus (BCMV) and have higher yields than their heirloom counterparts. See story on p. 3.
