Inside this issueWheat stem sawflies are, historically, one of the major wheat pests in the northern Great Plains of the United States, and the damage they cause is spreading. One of the best methods for decreasing their impact is breeding resistant wheat varieties with management changes and cultivation favoring parasitoid populations as secondary options. In this issue, we highlight research that tested three alleles for stem solidness as a means of combating sawfly infestation. The article is part of virtual issue in Crop Science celebrating the International Year of Plant Health. See story on page 6. Cover photo depicts fully grown sawfly larva inside a wheat stem.
