Senate moving forward with Farm Bill 2.0

Updated text for Farm Bill 2.0, the Agricultural Act of 2026, was released on Friday, and there will be a vote on the bill this Thursday. The updated bill still does not include additional funding for the Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR). ASA, CSSA, and SSSA members are encouraged to reach out to their Senators and express support for FFAR and ask for additional FFAR funding before Thursday's vote. Learn how.

Late Friday evening, Senate Agriculture Chairman John Boozman (R-AR) released updated text for Farm Bill 2.0, the Agricultural Act of 2026, and noticed the August 6 markup of the bill. The new bill is very similar to the "discussion draft" released at the end of June with a few notable exceptions. It now includes a one-year delay of the SNAP state cost-share and authorizes year-round, nationwide sales of gasoline blended with 15% ethanol, known as E15. While Democrats had requested a two-year delay in the SNAP cost-share, this compromise could be enough to bring some Democrats to the table to vote for the bill.

The updated bill, however, still does not include additional funding for the Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR). ASA, CSSA, and SSSA members are encouraged to reach out to their Senators and express support for FFAR and ask for additional FFAR funding in advance of the Thursday vote on the bill.
