Agronomy Journal is accepting submissions to a special section titled, "Crop Production in Mexico (Central America): Successes, Challenges, and Opportunities." The purpose of this special section is to explore today’s challenges, future opportunities in niche markets, new crops, and market changes, and weaknesses and considerations to make crop production as successful as possible in Mexico and Central American countries. The deadline to submit is Apr. 1, 2026. Mexican and Central American crop production face both unique and ubiquitous agricultural challenges and opportunities. Drought, flooding, high temperatures, soil salinity, low soil fertility, and pest and disease control issues all contribute to suboptimal conditions for many crops in this area.The purpose of this special section is to explore today’s challenges, future opportunities in niche markets, new crops, and market changes, and weaknesses and considerations to make crop production as successful as possible in Mexico and Central American countries.Papers that provide suggestions for future directions for policy, production, and infrastructure to maintain, sustain, and improve the agricultural base of Mexico and Central America could also be addressed. Submissions that present research results as well as thought-provoking forum papers that discuss policy needs, innovations, and other issues for the region will be considered.Topics of interest Topics of interest for this call for papers include but are not restricted to:Mexico/Central America Agriculture today;Today's successes and challenges;Future opportunities in new crops, niche markets;Policy/infrastructure challenges;Discuss innovations that are needed to improve or sustain ag systems.DeadlineSubmission deadline: Apr. 1, 2026.
