Climate change virtual issue underway
All society journals to publish papers on adaption, mitigation strategies

Development is underway for the virtual issue entitled “Advancing Resilient Agricultural Systems: Adapting to and Mitigating Climate Change” across all journals published by ASA, CSSA, and SSSA. We seek to explore the latest research investigating strategies to adapt to and mitigate climate change. Innovation and imagination backed by good science are encouraged as are diverse voices and perspectives in the potential papers. Documenting our progress in understanding the impact of climate change on agricultural systems and taking a forward look on how we can address those challenges is one goal of this virtual issue.
Guest editors to help facilitate this effort have been busy refining the topics and identifying potential authors for the commissioned articles. Current efforts from two of our journals include: The Plant Genome, Genomics of Abiotic Stress Tolerance and Crop Resilience to Climate Change, with Rajeev Varshney leading the effort; and The Plant Phenome Journal, Phenotyping Tools and Breeding for Climate Adaptation and Emission Mitigation with Dan Northrup taking the lead. Other guest editors include:
- Irwin Goldman, Crop Science
- Jessica Torrion, Agronomy Journal
- Stuart Grandy, Soil Science Society of America Journal
- Curtis Dell, Journal of Environmental Quality
- Peter O'Brien, Agricultural & Environmental Letters
- Brian Arnall, Agrosystems, Geosciences & Environment
- Ross Braun, Crop, Forage & Turfgrass Management
- Muhammad Ahmed Waqas, Urban Agriculture & Regional Food Systems
- Uma ant Mishra, Vadose Zone Journal.
We are still identifying guest editors for a couple journals.
This compilation of articles will represent a range of topics not covered in other works on climate change adaptation and mitigation with the goal of representing the collective knowledge in agricultural systems. This is an area of national and international interest in which the Societies can have a leadership role and showcase our ability to address critical topics. We will update you on the progress of this virtual issue and encourage you to volunteer papers so that we can continually expand this issue with the most current information. If you have questions, feel free to reach out to Dr. Jerry Hatfield, Lead Editor of the virtual issue, at Send Message. The full call for papers can be accessed through each journal on Wiley Online Library (https://acsess.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/).
