Publications lead

Through 2021, ASA, CSSA, and SSSA have published six new books, growing our book library to more than 350 titles. Along with Wiley, our publishing partner, we continue to offer Society members and the agricultural community essential titles that will enhance learning and grace personal libraries. All new books now have three purchasing options: print, digital ePub, and digital ePDF. Every new book will also be included in the Wiley Online Library (https://acsess.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/hub/books) and available to subscribing institutions via their library.

The book-publishing team is currently developing an additional seven titles scheduled to publish throughout 2022. Book publishing continues to be an important element of the Societies’ valuable and relevant content collection. Plans are in place to expand the books program output with targeted titles for different audiences. Remember, ASA, CSSA, and SSSA members receive a 20% discount on all book titles as part of their membership package. See below for details.

Harlan’s Crops and Man: People, Plants and Their Domestication

Edited by H. Thomas Stalker and Marilyn L. Warburton

This classic scientific and historical study of crops and their age-old relationship with human civilization is newly updated in an exciting re-examination of this rich topic. It includes studies of agriculture’s history and development; examinations of the histories and classifications of crops and weeds; explanations of taxonomic systems, gene pools, and plant evolution; and studies of crops by geographic region.

North American Agroforestry: Third Edition

Edited by H.E. ‘Gene’ Garrett, Shibu Jose, and Michael A. Gold

In the revised third edition of North American Agroforestry, an expert team of researchers delivers an authoritative and insightful exploration of an alternative land-use system that exploits the positive interactions between trees and crops when they are grown together and bridges the gap between production agriculture and natural resource management. It includes new material on urban food forests as well as the air and soil quality benefits of agroforestry, agroforestry’s relevance in the Mexican context, and agroforestry training and education.

The book also offers an introduction to the development of agroforestry as an integrated land use management strategy; comprehensive explorations of agroforestry nomenclature, concepts, and practices; discussions of tree–crop interactions in temperate agroforestry, including in systems such as windbreak, silvopasture, and alley-cropping practices; and examinations of vegetative buffers for air quality benefits, agroforestry for wildlife habitat, agroforestry at the landscape level, and the impact of agroforestry on soil health.
