In appreciation for the single largest donation in the history of the Agronomic Science Foundation (ASF; nearly $1 million), the ASF Board in December unanimously approved changing the name of the ASF Priority Fund to now be known as the Sarah E. Lingle Priority Fund to honor her generosity and her scientific legacy.

Lingle was a USDA-ARS research plant physiologist for 29 years and member of ASA and CSSA who died on 17 Apr. 2020, leaving a surprise, unrestricted gift to the foundation that will extend her influence in agronomic science for decades to come. All unrestricted gifts to ASF are placed into the Priority Fund where the board directs disbursements to support priority activities, projects, and programs based on need.

Lingle received her B.S. at the University of California–Davis in 1977, M.S. at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 1978, and Ph.D. at Washington State University in 1982. She was named a Fellow of ASA in 2002 and served on the Societies’ Women in Science Committee, the CSSA Crop Science Research Award Committee, and as chair of the CSSA Early Career Award Committee. She was also an associate editor for Crop Science.

To learn more about Sarah E. Lingle and her gift to the foundation, read this article from the December 2020 issue of CSA News magazine that is posted to the ASF webpage: www.a-s-f.org/article/lingle-legacy-asf.

The Agronomic Science Foundation impacts students, members, and practitioners in the Societies through financial support of scholarships, awards, travel grants, lectureships, programs, and initiatives. The foundation recently launched a new fund, the ASF-IDEAS Fund, which stands for Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity in Agricultural Sciences. To learn more about ASF, visit: www.a-s-f.org.
