Inside this issueWhile we know herbicide resistance is an inevitable fate in a system that relies heavily on herbicides, we can work together to focus on long-term strategies to delay its development and spread. Managing for a single year is a key reason we have gotten into the situation we are in today. A review of how herbicide resistance issues developed over time provides some insight into this and also some guidance into how we can more effectively deal with the problems we face now and into the future. Farmers rely heavily on their advisers to provide sound agronomic recommendations, and we, as advisers, need to take that role seriously to broach the subject of long-term weed management beyond individual-year herbicide recommendations.
