Call for papers: special sections on cover crops, soil system modeling

The Soil Science Society of America Journal is announcing a call for papers for two special sections: (i) Cover Crops in the Face of Global Change: Trade-offs, Synergies, and Challenges and (ii) Soil System Modeling: Advancing Predictive Understanding of Soil Processes Across Scales. Learn more!

Cover Crops in the Face of Global Change: Trade-offs, Synergies, and Challenges

Submission deadline: July 31, 2027

This special section aims to synthesize current knowledge on cover crop/green manure multifunctionality under global change. Contributions are invited that quantify trade-offs and synergies among ecosystem services. The journal is seeking studies that address the key challenges in prediction, management, and adoption. The goal is to provide actionable insights for sustainable agricultural intensification.

Soil System Modeling: Advancing Predictive Understanding of Soil Processes Across Scales

Submission deadline: Oct. 31, 2027

This special section aims to highlight advances in soil system models while identifying emerging research priorities and future directions for the field. Contributions may address process-based modeling of soil physical, chemical, biological, and ecological processes; machine learning and AI for soil process prediction; and hybrid frameworks that integrate mechanistic knowledge with data-driven methods.
