New Web Book on Biopesticides for Crop Disease Management

The Crop Management Network released a new web book in September, titled Biopesticides for Crop Disease Management, giving readers an in‐depth look into the world of natural pest solutions and their potential as an effective alternative to synthetic pesticides. Authored by crop protection experts from leading universities and institutions across North America, this publication allows CCAs to earn up to 6 CEUs.
In recent years, there has been a surge in interest surrounding the use of biological products in agriculture. While synthetic pesticides play a crucial role in pest management, the emergence of biopesticides provides an additional, eco‐friendly tool for farmers and their advisers. The web book highlights the significant impact of bacterial microorganisms like Bacillus spp., widely recognized for their efficacy in managing insects, nematodes, and root rot in field crops. Fungi such as Coniothyrium minitans and Trichoderma spp. have also demonstrated their potential as biopesticides, particularly in combatting diseases like white mold in soybeans. Additionally, biopesticides contribute to the fight against fungicide resistance, reducing the pressure on pathogen populations.
One of the key objectives of this publication is to enhance the understanding of biopesticides and their application in field crops. The wealth of information provided in this resource is curated from extensive research, industry consultations, and regulatory resources.
