Legumes, sunflower seeds consumed by many
March 23, 2021 – Whether you’re a baseball player snacking on sunflower seeds or you’re on a hike and reach into a bag of trail mix, you eat more seeds than you probably think! This Sustainable, Secure Food blog explores the many different types of edible seeds. This blog is part of the 2021 Seed Week celebration, organized by the Crop Science Society of America.
Blogger Christine Bradish explains, “would it surprise you to learn that the nutrients in seeds are also healthy and tasty? Like a mother’s milk, a seed can be a dense source of protein, lipids, and carbohydrates. Farmers grow and harvest these seeds for our consumption.”
