With CANVAS happening during Election Day, here are some tips for making your voice heard

ASA, CSSA, and SSSA recognize the importance of informed civic engagement to help ensure that the needs of our fields are reflected in policy decisions. This article intends to help you plan to vote ahead of election day on November 3, which is particularly important for those planning to attend CANVAS November 1–4.

Science is on the ballot in this year’s general election, so get out and vote on November 3! Public policy decisions have a direct impact on research in agronomy, crop science, soil science, and environmental sciences. These disciplines are essential to addressing some of the nation’s most pressing challenges, including food security, natural resource management, and energy production.

The upcoming general election will determine 435 members of the House of Representatives, 35 U.S. senators, 44 state legislatures, 36 governors, and numerous other offices. It represents an important opportunity to participate in the democratic process.

ASA, CSSA, and SSSA recognize the importance of informed civic engagement to help ensure that the needs of our fields are reflected in policy decisions. Make your plan to vote ahead of election day:

Confirm your voter registration status.
Review your state’s rules for absentee voting and early voting.
Review key dates and deadlines for absentee and early voting.
Make a plan to vote in a way that works best for you.

As a reminder, CANVAS is November 1–4, which means that registrants must vote early or absentee.
