Make America Healthy Again: How Society members can have a voice

In May, the Presidential Commission to Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) released a report to expose the root causes of childhood chronic disease, which they found include: poor diet, accumulation of environmental toxins, insufficient physical activity, chronic stress, and overmedicalization. The MAHA initiative has put a spotlight on components of the food system and agricultural production. Many of these key topics include: ultra processed foods, food additives and dyes, ingredients and the Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) system, SNAP restrictions, chemicals like PFAS, microplastics, pesticides, soil health, and regenerative agriculture. 

On August 18, the administration launched a new website to track progress being made to address these specific issues. Given the growing interest in MAHA, ASA, CSSA, and SSSA are seeking members to join a working group to discuss policy recommendations and potential engagement on these issues.
