Last month, we announced the launch of our Member Hub, a new user-friendly site unlike anything ASA, CSSA, and SSSA have offered previously. In coordination with Circles, the social media-like networking hub with groups and community resources, we’re excited to announce the latest hub installments: Events and Member Directory.Scheduled to go live on January 15, The Events and Member Directory offer new ways to access events and connect with others through the Member Hub. At the top of the Member Hub site, users can find “Events” and “Directory” tabs. The “Events” tab will show all public events and those from your Circles. The “Directory” is a member-wide search engine which allows users to find one another and make connections. If you’re interested in seeing Circle-specific events and people, you can find the “Events” and “Members” tabs on each Circle page. In the “Events” tab on the new Member Hub site, users can find all public events and those from your Circles. Contact and connect with other membersWhat can someone expect to find in the “Directory” or “Members” tabs? That’s really up to you. We understand that people value their privacy, especially in the digital age, so we have options to allow you to manage how much information other users can see. For starters, we’ve defaulted street addresses and phone numbers to be visible only to the user, and affiliations, position titles, and email addresses are auto-set to “members only.” Of course, one size does not fit all, so each user can determine what information they want available to whom (visibility options include: public, members only, my contacts, and myself). We also offer users the ability to opt out of appearing in the Member Directory and Circle Members lists. In short, we’re giving you the power to determine how much visibility you want in the Member Hub.Stay up to date with Society eventsSo why did we create these resources? The goals of the Member Directory and Circle Members lists are to allow you to continue conversations you may have started at events, make new connections, and find opportunities for greater networking. Users can do so by sending “Connection Requests,” which function like a “friend” or “follow” request on other sites, and direct messages through the hub. Regarding events, we don’t want anyone to miss out, so the global and Circle Events tabs allow a convenient, centralized space to find what you’re looking for. Events will also appear as posts on your home feed, just in case you missed them elsewhere. The goals of the Member Directory and Circle Members lists are to allow you to continue conversations you may have started at events, make new connections, and find opportunities for greater networking. If you want to find new events and connections, log onto the Member Hub today with your Society login to check out the latest engagements we’ve been working on.
