Taking It to the Classroom! An SSSA K-12 Initiative

Have you ever been asked to talk to K‐12 students about soils or wanted to do outreach but didn't have the materials and/or time to develop them? The SSSA K‐12 Outreach Committee has you covered with turnkey materials for your use.

Thanks to assistance from USDA‐NRCS, the K‐12 committee has developed an in‐service program (soils4teachers.org/inservice) with modules you can use for: 

• Soil Basics, 
• Soil Biology, 
• Soil Chemistry, and 
• Soils and Climate Change

In a recent webinar, K‐12 committee members Briana Wyatt, Jenn DeBruyn, Missy Holzer, Melanie Szulczewski, and Susan Chapman provided an overview of the in‐service program, the materials available, how to use them, and the contents for each of the modules. In addition, data collected on the effectiveness of the materials for teachers were highlighted.
