Lauren Mosesso
My Society membership has advanced my graduate school professional development in many ways. I have gained confidence in presenting and discussing my research at the Annual Meeting, become a better leader through the Graduate Student Leadership Conference, and learned about environmental policy through many Congressional Visits Days. As I am currently looking for positions after I defend, I find the job board very helpful.
There are many benefits to attending the Annual Meeting, but I would say that networking with other scientists from all over the world and discussing research through oral or poster presentations have the highest value for me. Collaboration is needed in research. Participation in the Societies allows me to stay up to date with the latest research in my field, learn new skills through workshops that I can apply in my research, and attend the Annual Meeting through student grants.
I have been a member of the Societies all throughout my graduate career, and I am just realizing all the benefits a membership offers. I encourage others to explore all that membership offers.
