Dear members: We begin this new year with a freshening up of our print magazine design. Over the last several months, staff have been working with our partners at Wiley to tweak the design a bit to enhance the readability of the magazine and improve the reader experience. In addition, we’ve added a new section called “Circle Back” where we provide an update to past research that we’ve highlighted in the magazine so that you can stay on top of the latest advancements. Let me know what you think of the new look or the new section at news@sciencesocieties.org!

In the Features section, we tackle the issue of supply chain disruptions. Fallen prey to rising prices, backorders, and shortages of essential equipment, researchers are making changes to their workflow. We also examine the concept of genetic weed control. There are a number of hurdles to overcome before this approach could be used, including ethical, regulatory, and ecological challenges, but it is an area of research that may be worth pursuing. Finally, we highlight a series of Agronomy Journal research demonstrating how producers in both the Midwest and the Southeast United States could use clover living mulch in their corn crops to boost soil health and cut inputs.

In the Membership section, the three Society presidents and the Agronomic Science Foundation chair write about various ways ASA, CSSA, and SSSA have been working to improve the inclusive climate of the Societies.

Next issue, we’ll showcase photos from our successful Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City and will also feature our annual theses and dissertations section.

Erratum

Bing Cheng Si

Finally, we’d like to publish this erratum: In the October issue of CSA News magazine, on page 40, Bing Cheng Si’s university affiliation was incorrectly published as University of Florida and should be published as University of Saskatchewan. We regret the error.

Here’s to a healthy, happy, productive, and safe 2022!
