2021 Borlaug Scholar Recipients Named
The following Society members were named 2021 National Association of Plant Breeders Borlaug Scholars: Arlyn John Ackerman (Clemson University), Pawan Basnet (University of Missouri–Columbia), Catherine Danmaigona Clement (Texas Agrilife Research), Nida Ghori (Kansas State University), Lance Merrick (Washington State University), Karansher Singh Sandhu (Washington State University), Renan Silva e Souza (University of Georgia–Athens), and Cleiton A. Wartha (University of Minnesota–Twin Cities). The awards are given to exceptional students aspiring to careers in plant breeding and genetics and who have a strong desire to contribute to the improvement of the plants that we all depend upon.
Members Selected for FFAR Fellows Program
The Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research (FFAR) (https://foundationfar.org) recently announced the 26 students selected for the 2021 FFAR Fellows Program. This unique three-year program provides professional development training and mentorship to doctoral students conducting research in alignment with FFAR's six challenge areas. Congratulations to Society members Chantel Chizen, Elizabeth Ellis, Agustin Olivo, and Ethan Triplett who were selected into the program.
Shokoya Awarded Fellowship
ASA member Godwin Shokoya, Botanist and Horticulturalist, was awarded Huffline Memorial Distinguished Graduate Fellowship at the 46th Annual Horticulture and Landscape Architecture Awards held at the Oklahoma State University on 21 Aug. 2021.
USEPA Names Members to Science Advisory Board
The USEPA recently named the following members of our Societies to serve on its Science Advisory Board (SAB): Sylvie Brouder (ASA past president and Professor and Wickersham Chair of Excellence in Agricultural Research in the Agronomy Department at Purdue University and Director of Purdue's Water Quality Field Station); and Godfrey Uzochukwu (Senior Professor and founding Director of the Interdisciplinary Waste Management Institute at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University).
