Where can your PhD take you?

Spend one year in Washington, D.C. as a scientific advisor on a Congressional or Senate policy staff.
For over 30 years, the ASA, CSSA, and SSSA Congressional Science Fellowship has placed PhD-level scientists at the heart of the federal legislative process. This is your chance to pivot from the lab or field to the halls of Congress, applying your technical expertise to shape the future of national policy.
The deadline to apply is April 30, 2026.
Program Highlights

Your role
Serve as a special assistant to a member of Congress or a Congressional committee.

Duration
This is a one-year commitment, from August 2026 to summer 2027.

Compensation
Includes a competitive annual stipend plus relocation expenses.
Are you the right fit?
We are looking for highly qualified scientists at any career stage—from recent graduates to mid- and late-career professionals—who possess:
Expertise: A PhD in agronomic, crop, soil, or related sciences (must be completed by the start date).
Citizenship: U.S. citizenship (dual citizenship is accepted).
Membership: Current membership in the ASA, CSSA, or SSSA.
Vision: A strong interest in public policy and the ability to apply scientific logic to broad, complex societal issues.

Where is she now?
Following her fellowship, Taylor moved into legislative affairs at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). She currently serves as the director of science communication for the Environmental Working Group.
