MADISON, WI, OCTOBER 1, 2013 – The Crop Science Society of America (CSSA) announces the following 2013 awards to be formally presented at the CSSA Awards Ceremony on Nov. 6 during the scientific society’s Annual Meeting in Tampa, FL. CSSA members nominate worthy colleagues based on their professional achievements and meritorious service. Only .3 percent of the Society’s active and emeritus members may be elected Fellow. The 2013 class of CSSA Fellows are:

• Guihua Bai, USDA-ARS: Guihua Bai is a research geneticist at USDA and a professor in the Agronomy Department at Kansas State University. He received B.S. and M.S. degrees from Nanjing Agricultural University, China and a Ph.D. degree from Purdue University.
• Jorge Dubcovsky, University of California-Davis: Jorge Dubcovsky is professor at the Deptartment of Plant Sciences at the University of California-Davis, and Howard Hughes Medical Institute researcher. Dr. Dubcovsky has made major contributions in the areas of wheat genetics, genomics, and breeding.
• Maria Gallo, University of Hawaii: Maria Gallo is dean of the University of Hawai‛i at Mānoa College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources and director of research and cooperative extension. She received a B.S. from Cornell and M.S. and Ph.D. from North Carolina State University.
• Barry Glaz, USDA-ARS: Barry Glaz is a research agronomist at the USDA-ARS Sugarcane Field Station in Canal Point, FL. He received a B.S. degree from the Ohio State University and M.S. degree from the University of Illinois.
• C. Corley Holbrook, USDA-ARS: Corley Holbrook is the research leader for the Crop Genetics and Breeding Research Unit for  USDA-ARS at Tifton, GA. He received B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Florida, and Ph.D. degree from North Carolina State University.
• William (Bill) Payne, Texas A&M University: William (Bill) Payne is the director of the CGIAR Research Program on Dryland Systems, led by the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), and a professor of crop physiology in the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences at Texas A&M University.
• Matthew P. Reynolds, CIMMYT: Matthew Reynolds is principal scientist and head of wheat physiology at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement. He received a B.S. degree at Oxford University, M.S. at Reading University, and Ph.D. at Cornell University. He first joined CSSA in 1990.
• Michael D. Richardson, University of Arkansas: Mike Richardson is a professor in the Horticulture Department at the University of Arkansas. He received a B.S. degree from Louisiana Tech University, M.S. from Louisiana State University, and Ph.D. in agronomy from the University of Georgia.
• Daniel W. Sweeney, Kansas State University : Dan Sweeney is a professor at the Kansas State University Southeast Agricultural Research Center. Dr. Sweeney is currently the editor of Crop Management, was a technical editor for row crops with Agronomy Journal, and is a Fellow of ASA and SSSA.
• Tony J. Vyn, Purdue University : Tony J. Vyn is a professor of agronomy and cropping systems extension specialist in the Agronomy Department at Purdue University. He received a Ph.D. degree at the University of Guelph, and taught there prior to joining Purdue in 1998.
• David B. Weaver, Auburn University: David B. Weaver is a professor and plant breeder in the Department of Crop, Soil, and Environmental Sciences at Auburn University. He received B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Georgia, and a Ph.D. from Purdue University.
