Plan your time at CANVAS: take a sneak peek of upcoming events & activities

Join us Saturday night for the Undergraduate Program Orientation

Prior to SASES tours on Sunday, join us from 5:30p to 6:30 PM in the Hyatt Regency Portland for a chance to learn more about the week ahead and meet the SASES Officers.
Following the orientation presentation, take some time to get to know your fellow undergrads with a friendly game of Jeopardy (organized by the National Officers)!

National Officers: 2027 SASES candidates

Be part of the leadership of the SASES organization and guide the activities for the undergrad members in 2027.

All National Officer candidates completed submission of interest prior to CANVAS.

  • The Students of Agronomy, Soil, and Environmental Sciences are accepting 2027 candidates October 1 – October 31, 2026

Information on Elections & Officer duties

The SASES Business Meeting is followed by mandatory Club Delegate Training, where student representatives are trained on voting procedures. In the event that multiple self-nominations are received, a SASES primary election will take place at the conclusion of the training.

  • Club Delegate: two representatives will represent their club by voting in officer elections. Plan and select delegates to represent your club.

Career development sessions for undergraduates

CANVAS offers numerous opportunities for undergrads to network with industry, Society professionals, and learn about future career opportunities. 

Aside from the Undergraduate Networking Session happening Tuesday afternoon, students are encouraged to check out the full CANVAS Program Schedule to find professional & graduate student sessions that may be of interest.

What should I wear?

For most SASES events, be comfortable, consider repping your club’s logo wear. Tours are very casual! If you are giving a presentation, attending a professional event that day, or attending the SASES Awards Dinner, consider business casual attire. You never know when you’ll run into a potential employer!

And one last thing…

Undergrads are encouraged to participate in professional sessions and workshops within the professional schedule – not just the SASES events! 

Consider attending other sessions while at the meeting – join your advisor or check out the program schedule to find events that may interest you. 

Attending a conference is a great opportunity to learn, meet new people, build professional relationships, and explore new ideas. A little preparation beforehand can help you feel more confident and make the most of your CANVAS experience.

  1. Prepare f or your SASES contests     
    If you’re competing in an undergraduate competition at CANVAS, make sure to review the guidelines page before your arrival in Portland. You may be responsible for submitting a presentation or uploading slides prior to competition – be sure to check!
  2. Explore the Exhibit Hall 
    Take advantage of so many potential employers, academic advisors , and informational resource under one roof. The Exhibit Hall is open daily and a great place to spend your free time – who knows what or who you may run into!
    Don’t forget about the Career Fair, happening in the Exhibit Hall 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
  3. Undergraduates can attend professional events too
    Sessions like the Industry Symposium or the Leveling Up: Preparing for Your Next Career Move could give you a glimpse into future career options available to you after graduation. 
  4. Student Scavenger Hunt
    The search is on! On Sunday evening, download the CANVAS app to start playing the game – you’ll be challenged to talk to exhibitors, attend various sessions, and interact with Society leaders and staff to earn points.
    If you earn at least 56 points before 5 PM Tuesday evening, you’ll be entered in the prize raffle in the Exhibit Hall. Winner must be present at drawing to claim prize. 
  5. Prepare Your Elevator Pitch
    Be ready to introduce yourself in a few sentences – focus on who you are, what you do, and what interests make you unique. You never know who you’ll meet walking around CANVAS!
